On Jan. 7, China issued a 55-article set of guidelines for building a "national unified market" and urged local governments to follow through in implementation. Observers said that the initiative has been in the works for over a decade, but its rollout ahead of the inauguration of incoming U.S. President Donald Trump shows China’s urgency to prioritize domestic consumption, or “internal circulation,” in the Chinese economy.
